Spring Poetry Writing Freebie

Spring has definitely sprung here in Northern California.  I was feeling the need to get something spring hung up.  We went on an impromptu spring walk around our school and made observations of things related to spring.  We also read spring books. After observing the outside world, we did a spring poetry writing activity.

Spring Poetry Writing

After writing down our observations, I gave them a circle map to fill out.  They had to put one word in each circle that describes spring.  They used their circle map to help them complete a spring poetry writing.  Click below to grab a spring poem template for your class!

The next day, I pulled out our watercolors and just let them paint what they wanted, as long as it was a spring theme.  They loved having a chance to free paint.  The picture below shows an old version of the spring poem freebie.  The writing freebie was updated and looks like the picture above.

It was a reminder to me that I need to let them have free paint time more often.  Has spring sprung where you live?  Do you have a garden at your school that can help with inspiration?

  1. Renee, thank you for stopping by my blog! Chico has a special piece of my heart! You are so lucky to still live and teach there! Guess what???? I think I did my student teaching at your school (judging by the pictures of the garden/playground). Do you teach at CCD, by chance? 🙂

  2. I did my first trimester with Mrs. Masters in 2008. I don't know if she would remember me but she is AMAZING! And so is your sweet little school. 🙂
